If you are into Linux then you must have known Mint Linux for its usability, created from the mighty Ubuntu distro, Mint Linux has secured a Linux market share for itself. Now, new version of this Mint named “Maya” has been released.
Maya featuring 2 desktop environments, MATE 1.2 and Cinnamon 1.4, where MATE is much more matured, and Cinnamon is somewhat newer and feature packed. Until Linux Mint 11, Genome 2 was their primary desktop environment, but because, original Genome team abandoned Genome 2 and completely changed the way of desktop usability, another team forked a new project called MATE from Genome 2, in order to save Genome 2. So Mint stated to use MATE, which is nothing more than Genome 2, but in a different name.

Another version is using Cinnamon 1.2, which is based on Genome 3, since its new and heavily relies on 3D acceleration, modern computer with better graphics card is required.
