Desktop Email Client - Thunderbird

Thunderbird is a fantastic replacement for pricey Microsoft Outlook. Made by Mozilla - the creators of Firefox web browser. Thunderbird combines good user interface and easy account management.

You don't need to type your POP/STMP details for common email providers, usually it checks with its database and fill those details for you, just type your email address and password - you are all set.

Media Player - VLC Media Player

This is the only player you need to play all of your video and audio files - it supports all media types. With the easy user interface and light system resource, this is the best app.

It can sometimes also play corrupted files and stream videos from online sources such as youtube.

VLC can handle all the audio files, but the interface is for video file, this little AIMP3 is a perfect app for audio files. Easy to adjust controls and ability to dock on either side of screen is also awesome for listening music while working.

Image Viewer - Faststone Image Viewer

Though Windows ships with image viewer, but that is very basic one. Faststone offers much robust image viewer with extra functionality like, cropping and resizing with also support for RAW image formats and image organizing.

It allows you to view images in full screen mode and also provide quick access to EXIF data. It is free for non-commercial use.
